Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Recently the field of computer-human interaction has exploded with new ideas, technologies, and issues. In response to these many developments, Apple presents this beautiful, full-color book that not only describes the interface guidelines for Macintosh computers, but also examines the theory behind the famous Macintosh "look and feel" and the process of designing and testing an interface.

From the Back Cover

You'll find definitive coverage of the newest and most important technologies, such as QuickDraw 3D and Apple Guide. You'll also find the classic cornerstones of Macintosh development, like Macintosh Human Interface Guidelines, MacsBug Reference and Debugging Guide, and Planning and Managing AppleTalk Networks.

Care has been taken to provide the information using the most appropriate medium. From the multimedia presentations of Electronic Guide to Macintosh Human Interface Design to the electronic reference included with Advanced Color Imaging on the Mac OS, the material is presented in the way that allows you to access it most effectively.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent primer on MacOS GUI, July 9, 1999
By A Customer
This was an excellent book, when it first came out. Nowadays GUI's are much more advanced, but the fundamental characteristics of the MacOS are still the same. Much can be learned from the MacOS GUI design. The goes into great detail on every bit of the GUI, so you won't miss anything.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Fantastic Introduction, March 20, 2003
By Kim (Queensland, Australia) - See all my reviews
A fantastic introduction to not only the rules of good HMI design but the principles and reasons behind them. The basic principles apply to all man machine interfaces not only Mac's and not only GUI's. Can build apon the ideas presented in this book by reading a more modern style guide for your target environment afterwards.
