The book begins with an overview of what resources you can use to build up the number of hits, or visits, to your Web site. Author Don Sellers first covers search engines and how they work, providing tips on how to get your site in the higher rankings on search-engine lists and how to get listed with the top search engines, such as Yahoo!, AltaVista, and Excite. He then moves on to discuss links, showing how setting up hundreds of links can increase traffic to your site but noting that a few high-quality links can also make vast improvements in the number of hits.

Sellers's lessons on netiquette in newsgroups and mailing lists are helpful for newcomers to these areas of the Web. He assists promoters in targeting which newsgroups they should list their Web page with and identifies some of the pitfalls of using this method of promotion. Finally, Sellers explains how to advertise your Web site, both in print and online. He advocates testing and refining your site regularly to stay competitive in the medium.
