Editorial Reviews

Product Description

This is a practical guide to successful television production techniques, examining the technical operations, the underlying skills of camerawork, sound, lighting etc, associated crafts, and the work of the television director. It has been extensively revised and augmented, to reflect current practices. As well as extended information about current equipment and the latest techniques, there are new detailed sections on how to light, step by step, single-camera shooting, using the production switcher (vision mixer), recorded sound effects, post-production editing and audio sweetening, shooting on location, videotape editing methods, etc. But still the emphasis is on imaginative and creative interpretation, and effective program making. Because "The Technical of Television Production" is used by a wide range of teaching establishments, the text has been rearranged and developed to be even more "user friendly". Detailed technical topics are covered in digests in the extended glossary to avoid interrupting the flow of the general text. A number of new illustrations have been added.

5.0 out of 5 stars Updated classic useful in classroom and field, August 4, 1998
By A Customer
This very comprehensive book is possibly the best overview of technical television. It has been updated for the 90s, and is handy as reference, or as a textbook. It also covers the roles and interactions of the crew, scripting, and planning
