Editorial Reviews
From Library Journal
In this authoritative compendium, 50 contributors define and explicate clinical and theoretical concepts from the legacy of Sigmund Freud. More complete than the American Psychoanalytic Association's Psychoanalytic Terms and Concepts (Yale, 1990), by the same editors, this volume provides a "comprehensive view of mainstream psychoanalysis." Although not an official APA publication, it presents established positions with historical context and some attention to controversy, e.g., in Jon Meyers's chapter on homosexuality. Non-Freudian dream theory gets short shrift, as does the controversial Jacques Lacan. A solid reference, essential for psychoanalysts and useful for interested general readers, this is more a monument for the present and past than a guide to the future.?E. James Lieberman, George Washington Univ. Sch. of Medicine, Washington, D.C.
