Editorial Reviews

Product Description
In this wise and funny picture-book adventure, a special student joins Little Critter's class at school. The new student uses a wheelchair, and Little Critter is worried. Will his classmate be very different? Will the class know how to act around him? It's an honest, realistic look at ways kids deal successfully with the unknown -- mixed with a big dollop of Mercer Mayer humor for good measure.

By A Customer
My son uses a walker and a wheelchair and loves this book. He received this book for his birthday and wanted to share it with his preschool class the very next day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet tale & gentle lesson in loving our differences., April 1, 2004
A Very Special Critter arrived today & my daughter and I have already read it. We always enjoy the critter books but this one is going to be a favorite. There is a new student joining critter's class who arrives in a wheelchair looking very frightened. Before long critter and his friend's realize the new boy is no different than the rest of them and is good at some things (like volleyball & math) and needs help with others things just like critter (reaching high items). It's a sweet tale of accepting the differences in all of us and my daughter was riveted to the pages

5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Special Critter, September 30, 2003
A Kid's Review
In the book called "A Very Special Critter", there is a class in which the teacher announces that a new critter coming into their classroom tomorrow. The student was very happy about it and he hoped the critter was cool. Then the student finds out from the teacher that the new critter coming can't walk, he uses a wheelchair. The student is scared, because he has never known anyone in a wheel chair before. The next day the critter came to class. This book teaches children that everyone's is the same no matter if they have a disability.
I recommend this book for kids between the ages 6-8.
This book is very exciting.
