Editorial Reviews

Review
Dan helps us understand issues we must address regarding the church and emerging generations. This book will help you strategize your journey out of the institution and into the mainstream of the movement -- Reggie McNeal, Leadership Network

For anyone who wants to learn how to bring the gospel of Jesus to the world -- Scot McKnight, North Park University

My father taught me that a problem well defined is half solved. It would be foolish to be in ministry to emerging generations without carefully studying this book -- Josh McDowell, Author and Speaker

What a hopeful reminder that Jesus is not as far away from most unchurched people as church leaders think. If every church leader will heed Dan's message, emerging generations will find faith in the real Jesus through his real church -- John Burke, Author of No Perfect People Allowed

brings authenticity and sensitivity to the discussion by engaging people who have come to trust him as their friend. This is Jesus' way of engagement. He didn't talk about people; he conversed with them -- Eddie Gibbs, Fuller Theological Seminary

Product Description
Statistics reveal an unsettling exodus from the church by younger people who are "spiritual but not religious." This is no passing trend--but there is great hope.

Led by author Dan Kimball, the six interactive sessions in this small group DVD with participant's guide will help you explore and respond truthfully, caringly, and engagingly to six of the most common objections and misunderstandings emerging generations have about the church and Christianity. Through interviews with emerging non-Christians and teaching by Dan Kimball, this video-based curriculum will help churches address these objections. Includes discussion questions and resource listings.

Six sessions consist of:
1. The Danger of the Christian Bubble
2. Is the Church Negative, Judgmental, and Political?
3. Does the Church Restrict and Oppress Women?
4. Is the Church Homophobic?
5. Do Christians Arrogantly Think All Other Religions Are Wrong?
6. Are Christians Fundamentalists Who Take the Whole Bible Literally?

They Like Jesus but Not the Church Curriculum Kit includes one small group DVD-ROM, one participant's guide, and one copy of They Like Jesus but Not the Church. Pastor helps, video clips for sermons and classes, and outlines for teaching the series are included on the DVD-ROM.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Stuff, May 19, 2008
By J. Glass (San Diego, CA USA) - See all my reviews

I've seen Dan make this presentation live three times at different venues. But this curriculum is a great way to learn what Dan has to say without seeing him live. The dvd's and discussion materials are "very to the point" and creatively put together. You get more out of these materials in a shorter time than seeing Dan speak for a full day.

I also like the other stuff that comes on the DVD. You also get sermon outlines and short clips to use for your messages, if you want to preach on the series or any of the individual topics. There is also graphics and publicity materials for use in your church that match the book cover.

What's missing in these materials? The Q & A interaction that you get if you see Dan live. Though he has a great way of engaging his audiences in a live setting, you will be very engaged with these materials, too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical, honest, and right on, April 9, 2008
This study is something that i feel all church leaders should be participating in. As disciples and missionaries in our own culture, it is imperative that we see and understand what those outside the church see inside the church. I've had some of these same discussions with students, co-workers and even family members about many of these same misconceptions. I've started to use this study in our council meetings and other leadership meetings to help expose all who are in a leadership role in our community to see those outside the church and possibly help them see form the eyes of those who like Jesus but not the church.
