Product Description
The Today's Heroes series introduces readers ages 8-12 to modern, well-known Christians who have shown courage and persistence in the face of adversity.

From the Back Cover
At age eight, Ben Carson was the class dummy. But he had a dream: He wanted to be a doctor. Ben's mother never gave up on him. "You weren't born to be a failure, Bennie. You can do it!" And she pushed him - turning off the TV and making him read at least two books a week. Ben's grades turned around. But then, in a deep rage, he almost stabbed one of his best friends. Would he ever become a doctor? This is the inspiring story of Ben Carson, who grew up in the inner city and went on to become one of America's most loved and highly respected doctors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ben Carson - Christian Surgeon, March 19, 2000
By A Customer
The story of Ben Carson by Ben Carson is an account of the lifeof a young American who went through many obstacles to becomesuccessful. When Ben was a little boy, his parents split up and Ben is told that he will never see his father again. This is a hard time for Ben but not as hard as times to come. When Ben started school, he was teased because he wasn't as smart as everyone else was. But here's how " the class dummy" turned into an extremely talented brain surgeon. Ben is so talented that he has cured cases that other doctors said were impossible. Ben is what you call a neurosurgeon. A neurosurgeon is another name for a special brain surgeon. Ben has separated two Siamese twins that were connected at the head and shared a large artery that was essential to their health. He also helped a man with Von Hippel Lindau disease, a disease which causes many tumors to develop. He is also well known for his Hemispherectomies. A Hemispherectomy is the process of removing half of the brain. This process is only performed by the most talented neurosurgeons. Not only is Mr. Carson a very talented surgeon, he is a great Christian. First he didn't think anything was in store for him. But he was wrong. When he was eight years old he decided that he wanted to be a doctor, but he never really thought that it would happen. I had a great time reading this book and I hope that you take the time to read it. END

5.0 out of 5 stars Hope, determination and god's blessings, November 4, 2002

(REAL NAME)
I read this book in which I had briefly heard the story of Dr. Ben Carson and was amazed at all of his accomplishments. This book was very inspiring and should be recommended reading for all youths and even adults to show them that their dreams can come true. Dr. Carson's story has really helped to inspire me for when times start getting tough that I should look to god for guidance.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book, October 26, 2001
A Kid's Review
I really liked this book. It is a real story of Ben Carson. When he was young other children called him dummy. He always wanted to be a doctor. Sometimes he thought that it could never happen but his mom would cheer him up. I think it's a great influence to kids. You should read this great book. Jk
