Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal
This anthology consists of poems, illustrations, and short and too short articles, some from Wingspan (150,000 circulation), a journal which Harding edits. After briefly describing U.S. men's movements, the book explains, defends, and critiques mythopoetic activities which help men to "delve into their psyches by reintroducing them to literature, mythology, and art." Most participants are (white) "heterosexual, midlife men." Theories clarify and personal experiences show what happens at mythopoetic gatherings. The directory of organizations (which includes Canada) and multimedia bibliographies are excellent. This book and To Be a Man , edited by Keith Thompson see "Iron Men: The New Male Psyche," LJ 4/1/92, p. 134-35, have common contributors, but their focuses are dissimilar. Recommended for public libraries.

5.0 out of 5 stars Real Men Are Not Afraid to Ask Direction, September 16, 2008
Wingspan is the best anthology of the Mythopoetic wing of the Men's Movement. Its got all the right stuff, written by the best and most articulate teachers and practicianers. I have been doing spiritual direction, concentrating on Masculine spirituality in an interdisciplinary venue for many years, and I use and recommend Wingspan as a guide and text at all my retreats,study/support groups and while "walking the Path" with individual men on their spiritual journies.
