4.0 out of 5 stars The Encarta Dictionary By Microsoft, January 28, 2003
By A Customer
As a collector of modern englsih dictionaries, I found the Encarta to be a refreshing change when it comes to definitions. The definitions don't leave you guessing after you've read them like other dictionaries do. Also, the definitions reflect the "modern" senses of a word, for example, "Aspect" is defined by using the word "part" whereas other dicitionaries dont.

I found it to be a good investment. Easy on the eyes as well. Trust me!

4.0 out of 5 stars For a dictionary., July 23, 2002

For a dictionary its pretty good. It has NO plugs for microsoft i could find if you search Bill Gates (Microsoft FRMR CEO) it says the same thing as it does for Steve Jobs (Apple). it makes finding out what the concept of a word better for example there is a HIGH VOLTAGE warning symbol next to a HIGH TECH word. and a Caution sign near words with disputed usage.

1.0 out of 5 stars This dictionary is not useful, February 18, 2003
By LANCE MILLER (OLYMPIA, WA United States) - See all my reviews
I bought this book on impulse partially because it was so inexpensive and
small(portable).

I have had it for 3 months. In that time I have picked it up about 5 times
to look up a word.

4......4 times this dictionary did not have the word I was looking for. The
words were neither non-english nor archaic.

To think that my vocabulary is larger than Microsoft's gives me some
pleasure.

The dictionary is now in the garbage bin.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst Dictionary EVER
This is the worst dictionary ever. Seriously. It's only definition of "delete" referred to computers. Pardon me, but I think that word predates the PC! Read more
