Editorial Reviews

Product Description

This Nutshell digests the Model Rules of Professional Responsibility in a critical fashion. It is an ideal complement to a casebook that explores deeper theoretical issues. In 2002, for only the third time, the American Bar Association adopted a major revised version of its ethics rules. This book incorporates all the changes made to the old Model Rules, in an historic context that lets the student understand problems with prior versions of the Rules and the Model Code. The authors also discuss and analyze the role of the American Law Institute's new Restatement of the Law Governing Lawyers, 3d.

4.0 out of 5 stars Concise and Correct Review (Mostly), June 7, 2008
As a former disciplinary counsel in NY, I found this book to be right on in many respects, and glossing over in others. For the most part, a good beginning for the practitioner in sorting out the hoary and complicated issues that crop in various ethical situations.

5.0 out of 5 stars best approach to confusing topic, July 11, 2007
I've looked at a few PR study guides, but they all are organized rather amorphously, so, for instance, my CB goes topically. I find it easier to organize my thoughts and outline when arranged by rule--which is what this book does.

It takes the Model Rules and addresses each, and the larger topic it addresses, separately. It selectively incorporates the Restatements and Model Code, telling you when one varies from another. It is by far the clearest synopsis of "soft" rules that I have found--far better, in fact, than the same author's "Professional Responsibility" for the "Black Letter Series," which approaches by topic.
