4.0 out of 5 stars Don't Trust Anyone on THE ISLAND, February 12, 2003
By Digirb (Lenexa, KS USA) - See all my reviews
In The Island, Hilda goes to visit her aunt and uncle at their mansion on an island. When she gets there, she notices some strange things and people there. First of all, her aunt is mysteriously ill. Then, her uncle's nephew, Paul, is not very nice to her. Finally, her uncle, Brace is very commanding. She hears some disturbing things about him from local inhabitants. Then, she goes for a boat ride with another guest, Mr. Gomez. He tells her some things about her past that she never knew, things that will change her future.
I thought this was a really good book. The Island had a very unique plot. It had some action, but it wasn't really scary. It made me wonder what it would be like to be in Hilda's shoes. Then, I thought how it could really happen in our world today, and how scary it would be to find out surprising things about yourself that you never thought could happen to you. Hilda was just and ordinary person, whose life got completely turned around with one summer vacation. Also, another reason why I liked the book was that the mystery didn't reveal any of itself until the very end. I didn't even see what was coming until it happened.

5.0 out of 5 stars Escaping Family, April 16, 2002
The Island ,by Isabelle Holland, is a very good story about a seventeen yearold girl. this book deals with a lot of things ,including prejuduice, which comes out later in the book. I felt that it was well written and though sometimes itjumped, it progressed smoothly. i think that the plot was really well developed and full of twists and turns.
Over all the book was really good. I reccomend it to any one who likes a romantic mystery / adventure novel.
