Product Description

The goal of Intermediate Algebra: Concepts and Applications, 7e is to help today’s students learn and retain mathematical concepts by preparing them for the transition from “skills-oriented” intermediate algebra courses to more “concept-oriented” college-level mathematics courses, as well as to make the transition from “skill” to “application.” This edition continues to bring your students a best-selling text that incorporates the five-step problem-solving process, real-world applications, proven pedagogy, and an accessible writing style. The Bittinger/Ellenbogen series has consistently provided teachers and students with the tools needed to succeed in developmental mathematics. This edition has an even stronger focus on vocabulary and conceptual understanding as well as making the mathematics more accessible to students. Among the features added are new Concept Reinforcement exercises, Student Notes that help students avoid common mistakes, and Study Summaries that highlight the most important concepts and terminology from each chapter.

Algebra and Problem Solving; Graphs, Functions, and Linear Equations; Systems of Equations and Problem Solving; Inequalities and Problem Solving; Polynomials and Polynomial Functions; Rational Expressions, Equations, and Functions; Exponents and Radicals; Quadratic Functions and Equations; Exponential and Logarithmic Functions; Conic Sections; Sequences, Series, and the Binomial Theorem

For all readers interested in intermediate algebra.

From the Back Cover
This text is designed to provide an interactive learning experience between the learner and the exposition, annotated examples, art, and the exercises you will find within. The first book on the market to introduce a "learn as you go" approach by including practice exercises in the margins of the text, this best seller uses real-data applications to help apply mathematics to your everyday life. Concepts and skills learned as you progress through the text are revisited again and again in the form of cumulative reviews, skill maintenance exercises, and synthesis exercises to help you retain what you have learned and see how it all relates together. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, thourough, easy to learn., June 18, 1999
By A Customer
It is a great source to learn algebra a recommendation would be to use the Introductory to Algebra by the same Martin L. Bittinger or have already learned Algebra I, Because this book is really fairly advanced for younger students and is covering mostly Algebra II information.

4.0 out of 5 stars good self-study book, March 11, 2006
first off, i'm not rebecca stack, but we use the same account. i am self-studying at home using this book. addison wesley were completely and utterly unhelpful when i asked for assistance when i first purchased the book and solutions manual. as for the book itself, i'm very happy with my purchase, although if you have no normal class/teacher resources, i would say it's essential to buy the solutions manual.

since i am wading through every single problem, i'm simply amazed that a 9th edition of any textbook can have so many wrong answers. anyone who has actually worked through a quarter of the problems deserves a case of champagne from addison wesley, in my opinion, and free textbooks for life.....

on the whole, though, i'm highly recommending this book as it is very suitable for anyone wanting to self study this topic with a view to going on to calculus. it's a monumental amount of work, if you're going to attempt all the problems, but even taking the errors into account, i feel more confident with mathematics now than i have ever before. even with my reservations, i look forward to tackling marv's calculus textbook (although i've now learned my lesson and will be buying other texts).

2.0 out of 5 stars THis is a misleading title, September 26, 2005
THis text is the annotated instructors edition, which is great. (Unless of course you are trying to learn)
I am glad it was half of the price.

I'll have to agree. This text is the definition of vague. The examples given just don't explain anything in great detail, or even in detail at all. Just awful.
