Editorial Reviews

Review

Still the best text I have seen that has a user orientation and does not have the bookkeeping emphasis. I like that it has a decision-making approach.

The text does a great job presenting accounting, reporting and analytical concepts without getting bogged down in details. .....I am very pleased with the text and supporting materials. Many of the supplements that you offer may indeed be beneficial to other instructors.

I am pleased with the focus on operating, investing, and financing activities and how accounting information is used in these decisions.

The text fits our objective very well especially since I teach accounting to non-accounting majors. --This text refers to an alternate Hardcover edition.

Product Description

In this inspired new edition, the authors illustrate accounting not as a set of technical procedures to be memorized, but as a way of identifying and understanding business problems and a means for evaluating potential solutions. Now in its fourth edition, the primary goal of this text remains the same-teach readers to understand the impact of accounting information on a company's financial statements. This unique organization introduces readers to the accounting information system and then emphasizes accounting for the activities of the firm in the second half of the book. This engages readers in the type of financing, investing and operating decisions that a firm has to make. The approach is especially ideal for readers who will become users of accounting information because concepts-not procedures-are emphasized.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just an ordinary accounting book, October 3, 1999
By A Customer
The book is overall quite good as an introductory text for accounting, but there are other books out there, equally good, that come a lot cheaper.

3.0 out of 5 stars Beware, June 22, 2007
If this book is required for your class beware! There are still questions in the self study questions, through out the book that after 6 editions are still are wrong. The book will say one thing in the chapter and then want you to do another in the chapter questions, without the benifit of telling you how or giving an example. I took my course online without the benifit of an instructor to ask questions face to face. This proved to be difficult. I am sure if you have a GOOD understanding of accounting this is a good book however with out a little background it can be a little trying.

4.0 out of 5 stars Accounting made easy!, June 11, 2009
This book is remarkably easy to read and fairly easy to understand. There are many examples and practice questions with answers in the front of the book.
