Editorial Reviews
From Library Journal
Kerrigan (cofounder/codirector of TOUCH Mime Theater) presents a one-stop resource for those interested in the collaborative creative process used by performance groups in dance, mime, and drama. Part 1 provides games and exercises to be used in a group creative process, while Part 2 deals with the dynamics of working in a group environment. Most of what is here is available in some form someplace else: articles and books that provide ideas for games and exercises useful in improvisational theater abound, and there is an equal number of resources on small-group dynamics, communication, and conflict resolution. What makes this publication unique, however, is that Kerrigan has gathered so many ideas into a single resource, and each idea has been proven by use in an active collaborative/improvisational theater group. Included is a list of the over 70 people Kerrigan interviewed, as well as an extensive bibliography. Recommended for theater collections. Laura A. Ewald, Murray State Univ., KY

Product Description
Visit Sheila Kerrigan's website at www.collaborativecreativity.com!

The performing arts are collaborative by nature, and more and more groups of performers want to create together, as an ensemble. This book demystifies the collaborative creative process and gives performers and directors practical tools and information to work happily and efficiently in the creation of original work.

Starting with how to come up with an idea for a piece, The Performer's Guide to the Collaborative Process walks readers through various ways to research, generate, shape, and organize material as well as a simple process to keep moving forward with the work. The second half of the book is about working in groups: how to create safety, build trust, share power, make decisions openly, and communicate - including skillful communication, constructive critique, and peaceful conflict resolution.
