4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent collection of adventurous eccentricsand others, December 20, 1997
By A Customer
This is a collection of obituaries from the Telegraph of London.Massingberd has collected those who have lived lives none of us can hope or may wish to experience now.The lives of those who as guardians of the empire or soldiers in its service ended up in the most perilous of situations yet managed to come through it all and still find time to take tea.Had James Bond not been a fictional character he would have found his way into this book as did his creator.Highly entertaining and a valuable reference work of a world and type of person now long gone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Massingberd's Niche, August 1, 2008
These series of obituaries reminds me of the wit who said about some review of last century: "This book will appeal to the sort of person to whom this sort of book appeals." Exciting lives condensed into one of Massingberd's obituary books are such good reads - why? I find them appealing, that's why.
