Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly
Starred Review. The second installment in Adair's paranormal romantic suspense series featuring the Edge brothers (after Edge of Danger), members of the secret counterterrorism organization T-FLAC, is hot, taut, globe-spanning fun. Caleb Edge's latest assignment is to follow Heather Shaw, whose father is well known for his terrorist ties. Before long, the two are drawn together, culminating in frenzied love-making against Caleb's hotel room door. Months later, when Caleb learns that Heather is expecting his child, he offers her a sincere marriage proposal—without giving up or giving away his secret hunt for her father. Their sexually charged wedded bliss takes a turn, however, when Heather learns about Caleb's mission—as well as his wizardry skills. Before they can resolve their trust issues, however, Heather is abducted, and Caleb must employ all of his paranormal talents to rescue her, even though the love between them may still prove unsalvageable—especially considering the centuries-old curse on the Edge family. Written with a pulse-quickening attention to sensual detail and a playful sense of humor, Adair expertly combines a tight plot and graphic romance with magical flourishes and exotic locales. (Aug.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Book Two, July 25, 2006
Long ago, there was a secret society of wizards whose sole purpose was to protect the innocent from evil at any cost. They were forced to hide themselves. Soon, normal people forgot about wizards and stopped believing in magic. Today, the three Edge brothers (Gabriel, Caleb, and Duncan) carry on the legacy. They are special operatives with the secret paranormal branch of T-FLAC. This is Caleb's story.

Caleb is still recovering from a serious injury. Unable to stand being idle, he convinces his boss, Lark, to give him a minor task and help break the monotony. Caleb is assigned to find out the location of Brian Shaw, international banker to some of the biggest terrorist groups in the world. Shaw disappeared, along with money belonging to over twelve terrorist groups, about a year ago. T-FLAC has found Heather Shaw, the banker's daughter, in San Francisco under a different name. Caleb is to meet Heather, convince her to trust him, find out where her father is hiding, and report in his whereabouts. Problem is that Heather won't, or can't, help him.

Heather has no idea why her father told her to disappear until he contacted her to say it was safe. Taking his advice to heart, she is now hiding in plain sight. She is learning to stand on her own two feet. No servants, not using any of her bank accounts or credit cards, modest apartment, and even earning her way by creating custom jewelry for customers. When Caleb bumps into her life, literally, everything changes.

**** This is the middle Edge brother. His special talent is time travel. The author adds a twist to this story early on, having Heather become pregnant by Caleb. Of course, the unborn child is male. He is also a wizard. Mommy's little boy for sure! Since this happens early in the story, it's no secret/spoiler, and it is vital to the plot. More than that, I can't say. Simply take my word when I say that I was in no way disappointed with this episode of the Edge brothers. Drama, drama, drama! ****

1.0 out of 5 stars Be Fearful of reading this book!, July 31, 2006
I don't know quite what to say about this book... This is the second book in the trilogy and while I found the first book to be a bit hokey, at least it was somewhat different and readable. This book is all over the place. There are so many holes in the story that it left me feeling frustrated. Also, the author has an annoying habit of just repeating the same facts ad nauseam instead of developing the storyline and working on character development.

I like this author (or at least did) and I was looking forward to something new from her. Unfortunately, this book felt like a complete a waste of time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wait a sec -- this is REALLY much better than you might be led to believe!, August 11, 2006

OK, end of a hot, tiring week and I was grouchy as could be. Grabbed this book at the grocery store out of desperation and went home and read the reviews. Bummer! Sounded like a dog BUT I started reading and to my surprise this is a really solid book to add to this series. Yes, there is repetition but the "Curse" is so tightly thought out that the repetition is like examing a puzzle box for a flaw to create an "out". The male and female leads are consistent in their intense emotions and make good, logical decisions based on the information they have. Then there are a couple of crackerjack plot twists at the end--I didn't see them coming AT ALL-- that end the story just perfectly. Seldom am I left guessing at where a story is going but this was a goodie and the strongest of the series so far. However, the next one is previewed in the back of the book and now I can't wait. Well done and fun!
