4.0 out of 5 stars Misconceptions, December 21, 1999
By "alessa9" (California, USA) - See all my reviews
Jacob Cade had strong opinions about which women were off-limits and which weren't. Kate Walker belonged in the second category--hadn't he once thrown her off his ranch for misbehaving? He'd never stopped wanting her, though, and it was time to make his move. Kate had been in love with Jacob since childhood. Unbeknownst to him, she wasn't the king of woman who took love lightly. Now Jacob was back in her life, but she didn't dare tell him the truth. Kate risked everything just being with Jacob. Her gamble almost ended in disaster--until Jacob decided to take some risks of his own!

4.0 out of 5 stars Close, but not quite, November 5, 2006
By Krystal (El Paso, TX) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book is very close to being one of the best...but not quite. The usual story abou the older, untameable rancher and the young, naive girl. Jacob is rugged, but the fact that he took Kate's passion without even thinking about consequences or the exact status of Kate, makes him seem very selfish at the beginning.
It's understandable that everyone misjudges from time to time, but his stubborn mind about Kate being a woman with "loose" morals just makes him immature. Just because he could not seduce her before, he finds it easy to just take her whenever he wanted. Kate loves him and gives him what he wants just so that she could have one memory to hang on to, but it turns out to be a "horrible" experience.
The rest of the book makes up for this incident, when Jacob treats Kate with kindness, while waiting for her to forgive him. Kate at the end is also very stubborn and it starts to get annoying because she doesnt see whats right in front of her. Overall this book has its ups and downs but it turns out to be a nice story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, December 2, 2009

This was a great DP book! I have been so disappointed with her recent books that I decided to buy an older one. I am so glad I did. You could really feel the characters pain, self-doubts, and passion. It's great when one of DP's grouchy heroes realizes what he has been like and truly shows remorse. I finished it in just a few hours. I couldn't put it down.
