Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal
Superintendent Mike Yeadings and his officers try to find a connection between a woman seriously injured in a hit-and-run incident and the dead man in her London office. As the investigation turns to the woman's past, suspects and motives emerge. A solid procedural.

From Booklist
Miranda Gregory is a successful London businesswoman with few friends, a very private private life, and a past that's shrouded in secrecy. When she turns up critically injured in a hit-and-run accident, the police are mystified, especially since Miranda is in a coma and can't be questioned about what happened. Then they receive a call from a hysterical office worker who's made a grisly discovery--a dead body with half of the face shot away. And guess where the body was found? Miranda's office, of course. Bad things come in threes, so it's no surprise when Miranda's adoptive father is found dead, an apparent suicide victim. The talented, persistent coppers of the Thames Valley CID dig away at bits and pieces until they finally unravel the horrifying secret of Miranda's past. Curzon's competent writing and keen understanding of the human psyche--plus an ingenious plot and a cast of fascinating characters--add up to a story that's sure to be a favorite among procedural fans. 5.0 out of 5 stars A novel that keeps you guessing till the very end., November 17, 1998
By A Customer
Poor secretary Annette Briers has a tough time of it. Her boss leaves her at the train station and goes back to the office. When Annette goes into work the next day -- a dead stranger is in her bosses' chair and there are no clues to his identity. The mystery is who is the stranger and why did someone kill him, right? Not necessarily. Annette's boss, Miranda Gregory has a number of secrets in her past that no one can account for. Then Miranda is nearly killed by a hit-and-run driver. Coincidence? Hardly...A strange solution to this delimna keeps the adrenline flowing the the reader guessing till the very end. I think Clare Curzon will be a name that becomes extermely popular among us mystery readers.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good plot, somewhat slow reading, August 30, 2008

The plot and the characters in this British police procedural are very interesting. It starts out very interesting, but then starts losing momentum about half-way through. However, the story does pick up again so it was a good book.
