Product Description
From the back - When former vanity license plate inspector Claire Montrose finds a valuable diamond ring embedded in an old stone wall, she's uncovered more than lost jewelry -- she's just unwittingly exposed a fifty-year-old murder. Claire's octogenarian housemate, Charlie, recognizes the ring with shock. It belonged to Elizabeth Ellsworth, a woman who broke off her engagement fifty years earlier, then killed herself. All the "old gang" believed Elizabeth had returned the ring, so how did it get buried inside a stone wall? As half-century-old questions resurface about the incident, Claire discovers more about the terrible secrets Elizabeth kept - and why someone wanted her dead. But the closer she gets to the truth, the more Claire realizes that someone believes old crimes must stay buried...at all cost. "Cozy trappings...effectively contrast with chilling glimpses of Charlie's concentration camp days--(and) a vivid cast of elderly characters." Publishers Weekly

Dear Friends,
I'm so excited to let you know that my newest Charlie Parker mystery, Obsessions Can Be Murder, is now available. In this one, Charlie and Drake head for the lakeside village of Watson's Lake in northern New Mexico, all set for a weekend of fishing and relaxation. But no... Charlie is contacted by a young woman whose father has been missing for four years after his showplace home mysteriously exploded. A local woman was killed in the blast, and neither crime has been solved. Charlie can't resist. I loved the cover art on this one, and I hope it also catches your eye.

My website has been completely redesigned recently, and I'd love for you to take a look. On it, you'll find a trailer (similar to a movie's promotional blurb) that gives more info about Obsessions Can Be Murder. And, I've added an email newsletter feature where you can sign up to get my quarterly Charlie Parker newsletter; by signing up for the newsletter you'll automatically be entered in my quarterly contests. The current contest runs until December 31st and the prizes include a gift pack of New Mexico goodies, signed books, and Amazon gift cards. Check it all out at www.connieshelton.com

My "Pass The Word" campaign got under way with the release of this new book. It's simple. If you've read my books and liked them, tell three friends. Ask them to also tell three of their friends. Everyone who does can sign up for my newsletter and contest prizes. I look forward to seeing your name come through on my mail list.

On a personal note, I want to thank each and every person who has bought my previous books and who continues to support my series. You are what keeps writers like me going. We thrive on knowing that you've enjoyed our work. Thank you!
Happy holidays and best wishes for a wonderful new year,
Connie

I just received some very exciting news this week. My newest Charlie Parker mystery, Balloons Can Be Murder, is a finalist for Foreword magazine's Book of the Year Award in the mystery category! I am thrilled to be among the worthy contenders for this award, and thankful to all booksellers and librarians who have supported me. And of course, to readers like you who buy my series and recommend my books to your friends.

I understand that the award winners will be determined by votes from booksellers and librarians, so if you are one or know one, I would very much appreciate your consideration. Winners are to be announced at BookExpo, the nation's largest book show, this May in Washington, DC. I will probably be holding my breath until then.

Thanks again for your support.
Happy mystery reading!

My newest Charlie Parker book, Balloons Can Be Murder, came out in November, 2005, and is doing really well. I'm getting such positive feedback from readers, and I want to thank all of you who have personally taken the time to let me know that you liked the book.

I'm already getting questions from readers about when the next Charlie book will be out. I'm happy to report that I've finished the first draft (as of February, 2006) and will be sending it to my editor in another month or so. Projected publication date is going to be Fall of 2006, so keep watching for it.

With best wishes to all mystery lovers!
Connie Shelton
