Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly
Six Earth women must work together to defeat the evil that threatens the magical land of Lladrana in the fifth and final Summoning book (after 2008s Keepers of the Flame). Raine and Jikata are the last of the six Exotiques to be summoned to Lladrana, sailor and architect Raine to build and direct the warship that will lead an invasion force and lonely pop singer Jikata to cast the musical spell that will destroy the Dark. Compelled to stay in Lladrana until they complete the tasks they were summoned for, the women are drawn into the mission, finding friends and love along the way. Romance readers who prize charming fantasy settings and armored warriors as much as tangled love affairs will especially appreciate the action-packed happy ending. (Jan.)

Product Description
The planet is dying, slowly being drained by an alien Dark, and only one last, desperate plan can save it.

Deep in another dimension, a disillusioned young singer is summoned as Lladrana's last hope. Uncertain of her future, unaware of her extraordinary magical talent, Jikata will be the sixth and final outsider—Exotique—to step through a dangerous portal of prophecy and magic. Survival will require her to forge closer friendships than she has ever known. The price of those bonds will threaten the very fate of Lladrana: a world where music holds the key to an ancient mystery—and six women will wage the ultimate battle against the forces of Dark.

5.0 out of 5 stars good ending, March 11, 2009
By Neker (Duson, Louisiana United States) - See all my reviews
Really nice ending to a very interesting series. The last couple of books were definitely lacking in character development. I'm so glad Owens took the time with this novel to really build up her characters. She focused on two characters and their additions to help the cause. I think doing that helped the book keep up the speed to the climax instead of lagging. I think anyone who has been reading this series will find this one very satisfying.

4.0 out of 5 stars If you have been reading the "Summoning" series, you have to read this one , February 19, 2009
I have thoroughly enjoyed this series. I finished "Echoes in the Dark" over a week ago and still find myself drifting back to the characters and story of Amee and Lladrana.
The style Robin Owens used in this book is a little different than in the previous books. She shifts between two character story lines in short alternating chapters. I found this slightly awkward and distracting. But, just about the time it became tedious, the two story lines begin to merge. At that point the style makes sense and it is up to the standards of the previous four books. The development of the characters and storylines, kept me interested enough to get through the awkward chapters.
The ending resolves a bit of the mystery of how the Summonings started. The book is good and left me wishing for another volume in the series.
I can see that, as an author, she may be ready to move on to a new story line and it is better to end the series while the readers are still interested, but I do wish that this book had been longer or that she would write another book in the series.
There is still potential in this fantasy world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great final book, February 17, 2009
I thought this book was realy great and the writter doese an excelent job tying all of the previouse books together to make for one hell of a final showdown. And might I just add that the end almost made ME want to go sledding....down the side of a volcano actually :o)
