5.0 out of 5 stars A truly sweet romance series., January 28, 1999
By A Customer
I too prefer clean romance. Nobody does it better than Debbie Macomber. We are a Christian family and so are wary of main line fiction, but I am so taken with Ms. Macomber.... I let my teenaged daughter read all this series. Excellent!

4.0 out of 5 stars This is the first book in the Promise, Texas series, June 21, 2005
Those who are fans of Debbie Macomber know what to expect with these series - very light, sweet stories with memorable characters.

In Lonesome Cowboy, Savannah lives with her brother Grady on their ranch. Grady had to work extra hard to keep the ranch together after the death of their parents, as a result he is often short tempered an grouchy. Savannah is a wonderful person, sometimes a little too-good-to-be-true, especially when it comes to her brother Richard (the never-do-well of the family).

Savannah is in her thirties and has resigned herself to never getting married - she hasn't even had a date in years! When she meets a stranded cowboy on the road and offers to give him a lift, and then one thing leads to another - can true love be so quick, and so easy?

What Debbie Macomber does best is create realistic characters - some good, some not so good, and some - it's up to the reader to guess? In this book she is true to her craft, and the characters I met in this book are definitely ones I want to meet again - in the rest of the series.

Sweet, light reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing, July 14, 2000

(REAL NAME)
I was so glad I read this book. It is a light and very refreshing read. I get so tired of reading about men and women who can't stand each other and then within two to three hundred pages fall madly in love and live happily ever after. Come on, life isn't like that. Thank you to Ms. Macomber who realizes that and writes a light book about people who live honest hard-working lives. (And there is just enough evilness in the character of Richard to keep things stirred up a bit.) If you're looking for a book that is a change from streamline romance this book is the one for you!
