Product Description

The world blew out in 2001. Vast areas of what was the United States lie beneath an umbrella of noxious dust and radioactive debris, a mantle of destruction drawn over a land of doom. Much of the East Coast has been obliterated; the Southwest is a land of fire; cities of smoldering ash have given birth to horrifically mutated life forms. Such is the Deathlands, legacy of global annihilation.

But there were survivors, struggling to overcome a dark new age of plague, radiation sickness, barbarism and madness. Out of the ruins come Ryan Cawdor and his band of post-holocaust survivors, whose odyssey of discovery takes them in search of other pockets of civilization.

Emerging from a gateway in Maine, Ryan confronts a ruthless and brutal sea captain, a woman prepared to go to any lengths to get what she wants...

4.0 out of 5 stars What happen to the B19 Clearance Mat Trans, May 16, 2002
By Shane@value.net (Martinez, CA United States) - See all my reviews
In this volume the 6 friends plus "Man whose eyes sees more" arrive in a redoubt that has not one mat trans unit but two. The second Mat Trans is in a departing mode, (someone leaving) and the friends find Space suits. I've not seen anywhere in any of the other books any explination for this occurance. Of course the infrance is this Mat Trans Unit connects to a space station. Other then this the book was great, Just wish Donphil More "Man Whose eyes see more" had stayed with the group longer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting Reading, March 12, 2001
By A Customer
While this is one of James Axlers first books in the Deathlands series, it portrays all the characters in excellent detail, and good form. I like the older books better than the new additions to the series, because of lack of extreme fantasy. These first few books were easy to relate to and to ultimately imagine being there. I find this one especially entertaining and provacative because it deals with the sea and the wonders beneath.
