Not only does this book have a touching and entertaining story, but the illustrations are amazing! You will have so much fun with Mr. Hanna's imaginative creatures that you'll be lost in the pages for hours. A must buy for people of all ages!

I don't believe for a second that the vocabulary level is really the point of this book. It has rhythm, alliteration, and emotion. If you read like Ben Stein, it might not be that great.
But if you are excited to read it with your kids, it brings the story to life. Don't worry about a few big words. Kids don't know all of the meanings to every word, but they can understand the story through context, just like we do.
Pout Pout is wonderful. I have it for my son who has loved it since he was 6 months when I found it. I gave it as a shower gift. My friend's new born loves the rhythm and feels soothed by hearing this book.

I am always looking for new books to buy for my three granddaughters. I read about "THE POUT-POUT FISH" in the New York Times Book Review, and ordered a copy for my four year old granddaughter. We read it over and over and we could not get the catchy rhyme out of our heads...we were still repeating it when she was trying to fall asleep later that evening! Her seven year old sister was able to read the book herself, and she enjoyed it as well! The POUT-POUT FISH was so adorable, that I ordered another copy to be sent to my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter who lives out of town. She and her parents also LOVED the book, and she recited the rhyme to us over the phone! When I did not see the book in our neighborhood BORDERS book store, I suggested that they order it, and they did.
This book will definitely become an instant favorite of anyone who reads it! Just be warned, you will never stop repeating: "I'm a pout-pout fish with a pout-pout face, and I spread the dreary wearies all over the place!" (At least until you get to the "kiss-kiss" part!)
