From School Library Journal
Grade 4-7-- Scott, 12, is a real animal enthusiast, but he can't have a pet because of his father's allergies. He has a part-time job in the lab of the Institute for Better Living (IBL) taking care of the animals, and also walks dogs. When one of his neighbors has to give up her dog Casey, Scott is devastated. Through a quirk of fate, he finds Casey at the IBL, being used in research to test the safety of drugs for humans. He rescues the dog, only to have Casey die a day later. The many sides of the animal rights issue are presented in this exciting adventure book. Realistic and well-drawn characters pull readers into the thought-provoking story. A good purchase.
