Product Description

Looking for a great piece to work on in your scene study class? For an audition? You want something fresh, juicy, well-written-something you haven't seen in every scene book. Give Chekov a rest and turn to memorable characters and scenes from the silver screen.

This remarkable anthology offers an incredible range of contemporary dialogues from the pens of the industry's finest talents-scenes that pulsate with emotional life, scenes that live on their own, out of context. Blistering drama and caustic comedy are excerpted from the classic screenplays of James L. Brooks and Oliver Stone, and there are cutting-edge scenes from the Coen Brothers, Kevin Smith and Spike Lee. These are the scenes of today's films, a wealth of material to motivate any actor-great scenes that will inspire and challenge you.

5.0 out of 5 stars About time for a decent actor's scene book!, December 16, 1999
By Richard Williams (West Hollywood, California.) - See all my reviews
Where was this book during my last acting class? Ms. Nichols book is long overdue. The only other scene book I could find was so outdated I felt I needed to wear a zoot suit. This scene book is so great. I took it to my acting class and everyone practically did handstands. Never again will I have to struggle with scene partners who depend on me to find an appropriate scene. Now and forever I can hand them this book (if they already don't have one of their own) and say: "Here are 99 scences to pick from." From one struggeling actor I say, thank-you, thank-you, thank-you for providing this wonderful tool to us all. You are the best!

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique and Much-Needed!, September 17, 1999
By A Customer
It's amazing someone else didn't think of this before. Ms. Nicholas' book has something for every auditioning actor, regardless of age, gender or type. It is bound to be an essential resource for any actor who wants to bring some "freshness" to the audition process, and set him/herself apart from others who are limited by the Classical Canon. Buy it now!!

5.0 out of 5 stars An important resource for actors, April 10, 1999
By A Customer
While there are dozens of "scene study" books out there for theater, this book by Angela Nicholas fills the void for film - and it is a must-have for any actor or actress seriously seeking to study the craft of their profession. The scenes themselves represent films that can be rented relatively easy, and this makes for a great comparison study of how the screenplay "works" - compared to your own efforts. (Or, sometimes, how the soundtrack or lighting or other film tricks make awkward writing look good.) Separate from that, it is fun to browse through the scenes and see how they were brought to life on-screen.

3.0 out of 5 stars A book for the non-public-school-types
Some of the scenes are a bit more adult. If you are buying this for student actors, pick and choose wisely. Some good movies are selected.

Great, hard to find scenes, but not for monloluges. There are no monologues in this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT Scenes, but Unoragnized
I found this book great if your doing two-person scenes, but if your looking for a monologue, don't come here. It's also not very organized.
