John Lukacs immigrated from Hungary after WWII and settled into a small college near Philadelphia where he has made history by writing historical studies. Rare among historians, he takes off the blinders of his adopted culture and academic trade to cut directly to core of historical processes and personalities. Carefully differentiating issues such as public opnion and public sentiment, he unmasks European and American history.

Should you want to understand American history from dynastic democracy to the roots of American Empire, Lukacs merits careful consisderation. Be prepared, however, to have your deepest prejudices shaken and your strongest opinions challenged.

His comprehensive understanding and clear exposition of the forces which have shaped and are now shaping our historical processes, from WWII to the end of democracy, challenge conventional wisdom. Lukacs's entire work is critical to framing these times in context.
