Amazon.com Review

This alphabetical compendium of carnal catastrophes is enough to make anyone consider celibacy. Kathryn and Ross Petras, the authors of The 776 Stupidest Things Ever Said, prove that all kinds of things can and will go wrong when people start to think with their reproductive organs.
Hundreds of furious moviegoers trashed a local movie theater in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The movie they had paid to see--Furious Copulation--was not what the title suggested. Instead, it showed a man chasing a chicken. The owner promised to change the title on the marquee to The Pervert's Express.
From the India-South Korea condom conflict, to a woman with a remarkable way of playing the flute, everything that can go wrong does go wrong. Some of these stories are not for the squeamish, but they provide a hilarious picture of the lengths to which some people will go for a thrill. Remember kids, don't try any of this at home. --Simon Leake

Product Description

  • A mother, answering her phone, hears her daughter shrieking and screaming. Terrified, she calls the police who arrive at the daughter's house, batter down the door--and find the daughter, nude, in her bedroom having sex with her boyfriend. Apparently her toe hit the automatic dial button for her mother's number on the bedroom phone.
  • A man, swimming in a Florida pool, sees the pool intake pipe and gets a unique idea. Hours later, after police, firemen, and EMT personnel are called, the man is taken to an area hospital--along with ten feet of pipe attached to a very swollen part of his anatomy.
  • A newly married couple in Turin set up a video camera in their bedroom to tape all of their honeymoon activities. But somehow certain crucial wires got crossed. While they were enjoying their honeymoon sex, so was everyone else in their apartment building: the couple had accidentally connected their camera to the building's cable television system.
In the national bestseller The 776 Stupidest Things Ever Said Ross and Kathryn Petras immortalized idiotic utterances by public figures and average citizens alike. The 176 Stupidest Things Ever Done chronicled fiascoes, senseless stunts, and utterly asinine activities from around the globe. Now, Stupid Sex takes on the subject that no one can resist. It's about people who get caught in the act . . . and about people who get caught in the trash disposal. Stupid Sex tells two hundred true stories of extremely dumb (and very funny) sex acts arranged under headings ranging from Airplane Sex to Zoo Bathroom Sex.

3.0 out of 5 stars Funny stories but mostly urban legends., October 22, 1998
By A Customer
The stories are pretty amusing and make for good party conversation. The only problem is that half the stories aren't true. They're urban legends. Gerbiling, condom inspectors, etc. told as true but all exposed as hoaxes in the mainstream media. The stories that are true contain "extra details" not included in the original reports and clearly invented by the authors for effect. If you read it as a joke book, you'll enjoy it greatly, but if you're looking for TRUE stories, look elsewhere. Check out Jan Brunvand's urban legend books at Amazon for detailed studies on some of the urban legends.

4.0 out of 5 stars Stupid, stupid, stupid, January 24, 2006
I guess it's true -- reality is stranger than fiction.

And the proof of that is in "Stupid Sex," a compendium of goof-ups, embarrassments and funny stories about problems with sex. And weird sex. And criminal sex. And pervy sex. And animal sex. And... well, the list goes on and on, getting funnier as it goes on.

Arranged alphabetically, this collection includes sex freaks (sewing needles, mannequins, dogs and pool drains), embarrassing situations (the police investigate a rape, only to discover it's a noisy honeymooner), and people doing the oddest things in sex, including yacht varnish and garbage disposals.

The book is full of all kinds of freaky things like hang-gliding voyeurs, garbage fetishes, wedding videos full of sex with dogs, erotic bubblegum, porn videos, penis worshipers, nudists, gay roosters, naked women covered in chocolate, frosting perverts, amorous tortoises, and people who get stuck in confined spaces during sex. Not to mention castration -- accidental, intentional and even self-inflicted. Yes, self-inflicted.

As any comedian will tell you, sex is full of comic opportunity -- especially since there are so many ways it can go wrong. And there are basically two kinds of stories in this book: the ones that are hideously embarrassing (and very funny) or the kind which are straightforwardly hilarious (like a student who plays a very sick prank with a cadaver's penis).

A few stories in here aren't quite hilarious, usually the ones that don't involve humans. It's amusing that the pygmy hippo can't figure out how to mate, or the sexually frustrated tortoise, but not really funny ha-ha. The stories are at their funniest when they focus on human beings, and the idiotic things they can do.

Kathryn and Ross Petras, fortunately, don't deliver this is a straight-faced manner. These anecdotes are written in a wry, slightly bemused fashion, as if they're not entirely sure how other human beings could be either so stupid, or so weird. You're usually left wondering, "How could that stripper NOT know that she was wiggling her butt at her grandfather?"

Wryly written and thoroughly weird, "Stupid Sex" lives up to its name. Weird, wacky and sometimes very embarrassing -- and all the funnier for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely funny, January 14, 2000
By Veronica (Georgia) - See all my reviews
I saw the Stupid Sex web site first, then had to read the book and I'm glad I did. I couldn't stop laughing. This is extremely funny, there are stories from all over the place about the most humorous sexual activities you can imagine. It's best read in bits and pieces, not in one reading. But it will definitely get you to laugh a lot! All I know is that I'm glad I never tried the things in here. Well, if I did, I wouldn't let anyone know.
