Editorial Reviews

Review
From the reviews:

"In child neuropsychology, the purpose is to present current information from the scientific bench to practicing clinicians about neurological and psychiatric diseases and validated treatments. a ] the book is intended for pediatric neuropsychologists, but pediatric neurologists, child psychiatrists, and other psychologists may find it of interest as well. Certainly it would be appropriate for students of these disciplines. a ] It may be a suitable and worthwhile purchase for students testing the waters of child neuropsychology a ] ." (Christopher J. Graver, Doodya (TM)s Review Service, September, 2008)

Product Description
This book presents the most current information about the influences of brain function on the cognitive-perceptual, learning, behavioral, and psychosocial adjustment of children and adolescents. To establish a base for understanding, the authors introduce the study of child clinical neuropsychology and functional neuroanatomy in the first two chapters. Readers will learn anatomy and physiology in clear, concise language. In the next three chapters, neuropsychological assessment is presented. The authors then examine the biogenetic and environmental factors that affect the neuropsychological functioning of children with various disorders. In the final chapters, specific intervention methods are addressed along with case studies to show how process-oriented neuropsychological assessment can inform intervention planning. This book presents a transactional neuropsychological approach for understanding childhood and adolescent disorders. It is for professionals working in the field of child/adolescent psychology.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not very in-depth, January 23, 2002
By A Customer
This book was a nice overview of pediatric neuropsychology, but I found it quite shallow in terms of practical information. I found myself thinking "yeah, I know all that, now get to the meat."

A nice start for the beginner, but don't buy this thinking that you will get details of how to actually do pediatric neuropsychology.

2.0 out of 5 stars Typos and some inaccuracies, January 29, 2002
By A Customer
The book has more typos than any text I've ever purchased and includes some important inaccuracies (e.g., Prozac is referred to as an MAOI). Despite these things, the book provides some good general information, but the reader certainly gets the sense that the book was hurriedly thrown together without a good proofread, first.

2.0 out of 5 stars Neuropsychological Bias, September 7, 2003
By A Customer
The author presents a very biased view of child neuropsychology.
She omits many relevant research findings especially in the area
of neurometrics and presents a very narrow scientific base focusing
on only a few relevant researchers. There are also many errors
with regard to factual information and little cohesiveness in
bringing together research findings. Some of the real pioneers
in neuropsychological research have been omitted.
