From the reviews of the fifth edition:
"The most widely used major text dedicated to gynaecological pathology in the USA and is widely used and respected throughout the world. This edition ... has been considerably modified and updated. The author list reads like the great and the good of gynaecological pathology ... are extremely experienced and well respected gynaecological pathologists. an excellent, in-depth gynaecological pathology textbook which should certainly be in every pathology department and hospital library. ... I feel it is undoubtedly the best American textbook of gynaecological pathology." (Terry P Rollason, Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Vol. 56 (5), 2003)
"Blausteins pathology of the female genital tract is a well established textbook since numerous years. The fifth edition has been expanded to a great amount . It ... offers suitable and applicable diagnostic guidelines accompanied by informative illustrations. ... The fifth edition can be recommended to young colleagues, even experienced pathologists, obstetricians, and gynaecologists without hesitations." (Klaus Kayser, Electronic Journal of Pathology and Histology, Vol. 8 (3), 2002)
Updates to the Fifth Edition include revisions to the chapter on Precancerous Lesions of the Cervix in which cytology has been integrated with histology and the role of HPV in cervical cancer screening is discussed in detail, as well as updates to the chapters on Endometrial Carcinoma, Mesenchymal Tumors of the Uterus, Surface Epithelial Tumors of the Ovary, and Gestational Trophoblastic Disease. The chapters on Molecular Biology and Immunohistochemistry have also been extensively revised as these techniques move out of the research laboratory and become incorporated into routine practice.
Under the editorship of Robert J. Kurman, MD, BLAUSTEIN'S PATHOLOGY OF THE FEMALE GENITAL TRACT remains the gold-standard reference for practicing pathologists and trainees, as well as for gynecology practitioners and residents.
