Editorial Reviews
From Library Journal
According to the author, 90 percent of back injuries are to the soft tissues. A spine surgeon affiliated with the Texas Back Institute, Hochschuler advocates an approach of limited use of nonsteroidal analgesics followed by active rehabilitation through exercise (illustrated with instructive photographs) and changes in work/home environments to avoid reinjury. He also covers spine problems that require surgery, but a better resource for candidates of back surgery is A.A. White's Your Aching Back ( LJ 8/90). Hochschuler's tendency to repeat himself is this book's greatest weakness. Overall, however, the author presents a solid, conservative course of treatment for the majority of back pain sufferers. Recommended for public libraries.
