Suzi Landolphi has an interesting approach to sexual counseling: she offers extremely explicit examples from her own past, such as how she and her boyfriend, both teenagers and neither ready for intercourse, developed a clothed intercourse simulation that brought both to orgasm. These stories illustrate points about how sex can enhance self-esteem, rather than confuse or degrade an individual. Her message isn't startling--sex should make you feel good--but it comes across with a refreshingly earnest tone. It helps that Landolphi has had an interesting sexual history and feels comfortable writing about it; she makes it comfortable for us to read about it.

She also emphasizes that we all need love and acceptance more than sex, that honest communication builds trust, and that trust fosters the best sex. Appropriate chapters on safe sex and learning from your mistakes are also included. Although there is a plethora of such books on the market, Landolphi's readable work is packed with common sense.
