5.0 out of 5 stars The best review of this subject available., February 4, 2000
At last: a review of a continually-developing subject that's up-to-date, comprehensive and readable. I know of no other text on this subject that covers the ground from the basic physics of X-ray production to the most recent advances in Nuclear Medicine, CT and MR in such an accessible way. No relevant detail is excluded, yet the text is never boring in the manner of previous efforts on these subjects. For those preparing for Boards or Fellowship exams, and for those practising in the field, this book is essential.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for radiology residents and medical physicist, April 8, 2007
By M. Ivanovic (Chapel Hill, NC USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book provides a highly readable and a comprehensive review of the basic physics and current technology for the diagnostic imaging modalities in radiology and nuclear medicine. Its thorough up-to-date coverage of all imaging modalities combined with an extremely well organized layout for introducing the various topics makes the text especially useful for radiology residents preparing for the ABR examination. The level of detail covered makes the book an essential reference volume for medical physics graduate students and medical physicists as well. All topics are covered in sufficient detail and depth to make it an extremely useful one to select for the primary text for the physics course on diagnostic imaging for radiology residents as well as the introductory course on the same topic for graduate students in medical physics.

5.0 out of 5 stars 2nd. edition updates thoroughly, September 26, 2006
As a committed user and fan of the first edition of this book, I awaited its updating in a second edition eagerly. Drs. Dowsett, Kenny and Johnston have not disappointed. Physics is not a topic that most trainees in diagnostic imaging find easy or interesting; learning and understanding relevant physics is often one of the more taxing and uninteresting chores on the route to becoming competent as a radiologist or radiologic technologist. The authors of The Physics of Diagnostic Imaging have succeeded in making their often abstruse subject interesting, relevant to clinical practice and understandable. Since the publication of the first edition of this book in 1998, I have considered it to be the best single-volume source for this subject available, and have recommended it to all our trainees. The second edition has comprehensively brought the content up to date, with new and expanded sections on multislice CT, modern MR imaging sequences and computers in readiology, with particular reference to digital imaging and PACS physics and technology. New developments in radiobiology are well covered, and all the basic material in the first edition has been updated. Niggling typographical errors in the first edition have been weeded out.
As with the first edition, I would strongly recommend this book to students in the field as their principal textbook and reference source. It will continue to be the recommended text on our training programme.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I never before bought a book with so many typographical errors in it, which is unacceptable in this category of price. Read more
