Editorial Reviews

Review

This is an inspiring and powerful book, a lucid account that will be of substantial use to people already using Theatre of the Oppressed. It should also act as an excellent introduction for those new to the system. - Artscene

This is a useful handbook for those who want to explore Boals Theatre of the Oppressed and as such is greatly to be welcomed. Boals work deserves and demands emulation. - Theatre Research International

You have achieved what Brecht only dreamt of and wrote about: making a useful theatre that is entertaining, fun, and instructive. It is a different kind of theatre - a kind of social therapy.it focuses the mind, relaxes the spirit, and gives people a new handle on their situations. - Richard Schechner

5.0 out of 5 stars A valuable introduction to the Theatre of the Oppressed, April 12, 2000
By A Customer
This text represents a valuable introduction to the theories and practice of Augusto Boal. GFA, unlike its predecessor the Theatre of the Oppressed, contains practical exercises as well as an introduction to the important theoretical work of Boal. Boal's major innovations (such as Forum Theatre and Image Theatre) are introduced, discussed, and illustrated with examples, thus effectively allowing the reader to enter into the dialogue of using and refining the techniques. I would recommend this to any performer, artist, educator, or theatre worker who is unfamiliar with the work of Boal, and seeks new methods of understanding and transforming practice, and empowering both audience and participants.

5.0 out of 5 stars Augustus Boal for all ages, April 11, 2000
By A Customer
Definitely a must-have in all drama classes. Don't recycle the same old exercises which have nothing to do with the world around us - the work of Boal is accessible and important to students of the theater of all ages.
