First of all, my thanks to all of you who have read THE PEARLS and are now clamoring for its sequel THE CROWN.  I'm delighted that you've enjoyed reading about Shadrael and Lea.  I wish I could tell you that the second volume of their story will be available soon, but it won't be published until late 2008.

Some of you may be considering reading THE PEARLS but hesitating because you think you have to read THE RUBY THRONE trilogy first.  You don't.  Although some events that took place in these earlier novels are alluded to, you can certainly follow the plot in THE PEARLS on its own.  Naturally I would be thrilled if everyone went out and found the older books, but although you'll find Lea in them, Shadrael isn't there.

There are just a few days now until THE PEARLS comes out.  With help from some skilled colleagues, I have put together a short video of still shots that are representative of some of the terrain where this fantasy story takes place.  I had a lot of fun selecting the photos that have been taken from my travels and are very inspirational to my imagination.  I used shots from North Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas, Greece, and New Mexico to convey the "locales."  THE PEARLS is set in a vast empire of provinces, so the journey my heroine Lea is forced to make is a long one, dealing with varying climates and geography.  Although the time constraints of a short promotional video like this did not permit me to follow her entire journey, I think there's just enough to convey the gist of where she and Commander Shadrael are going.  It's up on my publisher's Web site, as well as mine.  Let me know what you think.

Happy Thanksgiving to all,
Deborah

Hello!
Just about six weeks now until THE PEARLS hits the stores.  I am thrilled with the cover art, which you can see on Amazon and my Web site.  I think artist Matt Stawicki has done a splendid job.  Hope you agree.

I had a terrific time attending a few science fiction/fantasy conferences this summer, and got to visit such diverse places as the Caskia Indian mounds in Illinois and the Texas hill country, including a strange, remote mountain and park called Enchanted Rock.  It's all grist for the imagination, and I have no doubt that these locales are going to somehow work themselves into inspiration for some of my next fantasy projects.

In late July I wrapped up the sequel to THE PEARLS and shipped it off to my publishers, so I've been taking a break from my keyboard for a little while and letting my mind mull over development for the next novel I plan to write.

Regards,
Deborah
