Editorial Reviews

Review

"An ideal resource for the busy surgical pathologist...an essential addition to the pathologist's library...Should be kept adjacent to the microscope." (NEJM)

"The third edition of Dr. Fletcher's textbook on tumors continues the tradition of a well-organized and clear text with abundant color images that spans the entire range of human tumors that was set by the previous 2 editions... Few of us are as articulate as Dr. Fletcher in describing how these ancillary studies really are complementary to traditional morphology rather than replacements for it. As our field changes and evolves, our future role will in part depend on what information we can provide to our clinicians and how useful it is. Textbooks such as this allow pathologists to know the best information to collect and present, from both tradtional and new wave tests, to help clinicians care for their patients." - Advances in Anatomic Pathology, May 2008

BMA Book Awards 2008 - Highly Commended

"Previous editions of Diagnostic Histopathology of Tumours have been required additions to the bookshelf of any practicing surgical histopathologist, and this edition will be no different. It is comprehensive, well-laid-out, beautifully illustrated, and a joy to read. Each organ system is presented clearly, and the text is very easy-to-read, and practically-oriented. The quality of the illustrations is fantastic, and photomicrographs cannot be faulted. Practical diagnostic challenges can be approached with confidence with 'Fletcher', and this third edition will continue to be an authoritative source for trainee pathologists and more experienced practitioners alike. This is a 'must-have' text for diagnostic pathologists."

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful text, July 31, 2007
By LDG in Montgomery (Montgomery, AL United States) - See all my reviews
This is a beautiful new (third) edition of this text, and improvements abound from its predecessor (which I also liked). The images are better in many chapters. The tables are well organized. As a general pathologist, I've found myself using this general text more and more. I can often get as much information as I need without turning to a subspecialty text. Very nice job.

5.0 out of 5 stars Updated and comprehensive bible for tumor pathology, September 14, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I was a little hesitant spending $400 of my $500 book fund allowed per year on this updated version of Fletcher. I have been using the departmental copy of the previous edition of this book so far and I can only say that this has been the best and most concise reference book for tumor pathology. I am impressed at how updated this new edition is. This will save me a lot of time going to read journal articles for updated classification schema and new variants of tumors etc. All in all, a great book to buy for a PGY-4 pathology resident and of course, for practicing pathologists. On the other hand, if you are just looking to buy just a single book to get by in pathology, this is not the best choice... just go for Silverberg or Rosai.
That said, the page design and layout within is very rich, useful and colorful..plus..it looks great on my home bookshelf getting furtive glances from every non-medico visitor at home..What more can you ask?

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Compilation of Tumor Pathology, April 26, 2008
By Brian J. Sutton (Winston Salem, NC) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This new 2-volume set is well-written, clearly organized, and does an admirable job of covering the vast topic of tumor pathology. The pictures are crisp and colorful and can be downloaded from the accompanying CD's to be used in powerpoint presentations. Be aware that non-neoplastic disease is not covered, as this set is dedicated solely to tumors. Overall, well worth the money!
