From School Library Journal
Grade 3-5 Over 100 entries for dinosaurs, listed in alphabetical order. Each entry explains the meaning of the dinosaur's name and gives information about weight, size, where the dinosaur lived, and the time in which it lived. Placid color illustrations for most, but not all, of the entries show what the dinosaurs looked like, and a color time chart at the back of the book illustrates the dinosaurs' family tree. Missing from this dictionary are pronunciation guides and an overall view of how dinosaurs evolved and coexisted. Diagram Group's A Field Guide to Dinosaurs (Avon, 1983) and Sattler's The Illustrated Dinosaur Dictionary (Lothrop, 1983) are generally better sources, providing more inclusive coverage. Although this dictionary's format may appeal to younger audiences, it contains little new information and lacks the thorough research that makes the other two dictionaries so good. Cathryn A.
