Browne, who bills herself as a psychic and spiritual teacher, follows up her Adventures of a Psychic with this comprehensive manual on living a spiritual life. She tells readers how to detect subtle energy levels, find their spirit guides, discover the major themes of their lives, recognize angels and dark entities, and master myriad other spiritual challenges. Browne's twofold purpose, she states, is to help readers use their psychic abilities to create health, and to reveal the nature of the "other side," the place where spirits reside after death and before they are reborn into new selves that retain programming and memories from previous existences. Those familiar with Browne from her television appearances (the Montel Williams Show, Sally Jessy Raphael, CNN, etc.) will recognize her signature, down-to-earth approach to the supernatural ("The closest thing I have to a soul mate on this earth is my granddaughter Angelia.") Occasionally, her relaxed banter grows boring, as when she reveals that her spirit guide, Francine, "adores attention, and it's fine with me, as long as she and I aren't wearing matching outfits, which would look a little too cute for my taste." All my life I was taught that God is cruel and punishing, that a murderer will go to Heaven if he repents, but a woman who seeks a divorce will go to Hell. What kind of God is that? Certainly not one that deserves my worship. In my very cells I KNEW that God wasn't like that, and after reading Sylvia's book, I am finally at peace with my beliefs. Everything she says are things that I instinctively felt since childhood. Instinct. It should have been my first clue. For years, I studied every religious tome I could lay my hands on, seeking the truth, but the more I read, the less I believed. I was completely torn apart, because I had problems believing in much of the Bible, but I knew God existed. Then I read this book, and for the first time, every word rang true. It was as if the knowledge was already there, behind a door, and the book unlocked it. It felt so natural. And best of all, now I know I'm not crazy. Yes, Preacher, I did have a past life, and NO I won't go to Hell because I must pay for the sins of my parents because I wasn't baptized. Sylvia's book explains why there are no coincidences, why I can't walk into an antique store, and why I have knowledge I didn't learn in this life. I no longer fear that my loved ones may go to Hell, nor do I fear death. I am more at peace than I have ever been, thanks to this remarkable woman with God's gift. Thank you, Sylvia! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!

Sylvia Browne takes a different approach in "The Other Side and Back" by making it a guide to achieving and understanding the lessons she's become famous for teaching the world. It has a few repeated items items from "Adventures of a Psychic", only because those facts are important to know for the in-depth study of the lessons in the new book. I thought I had found out all Sylvia had to teach(from watching her lectures on TV, reading her biography, and attending a live lecture), but I learned SO MANY new things, I was astonished and somewhat embarrassed that I had assumed I knew it all already. "The Other Side and Back" tells us all about the dark side,where the bad people go since there is no flame-ridden hell like we had assumed, how to astral travel in our dreams, interesting (and humorous) ideas and stories about the mind and its potential.I loved this book because it gave an all around revitalizing look at how we can control our mindset and vocabulary to lead more positive, learned lives and finally reach our home with God.

this book actually did "change my life". I am a recent college graduate who is very scientific minded, but I grew up in a very religious household, so I am at a point in my life where I am quite skeptical of anything pertaining to "God" or "angels" or "spirits", etc. But I have seen Sylvia on Montel Williams, and I was curious enough to buy this book. I am so glad that I did, because whether or not any of it is true, I came away with such a feeling of peace, self-worth, and control over my life, that it was more than worth the price of the book. I have more insight into things I always felt may be true, and I also understand and accept with much more peace things that happen around me and to me. I try now, more than ever, to learn from every experience. The guidance, humor, and warmth make this book a wonderful read. Highly recommended. Thank you, Sylvia!
