Some people consider turning sixty the beginning of the
end. Sixty, according to them, is
old. The time to do things in your life
is when youre young, not when youre old.
It seems that most people think sixty is when youre supposed to put
your feet up on the table, lean back with a cool drink, and watch baseball on
TV - Or dopey shows like Deal or No
Deal. Sorry, but not for me.
I consider sixty a challenge. So far, Ive written thirty-six books. That
includes over a million words of fiction and a million words of
non-fiction. Ive won six major literary
awards, been a Guest of Honor at World Fantasy Convention, served on the Board
of Trustees of the Horror Writers Association, and more. But, Im not finished yet!
Im aiming to match my age with the number of books I get published. Its going to take some effort, but I have no
desire to sit in front of the TV and grow old gracefully. Im
planning to keep writing till the time that I cant touch a keyboard with my
fingers. As Weird Al once said, Ill Be
Mellow When Im Dead! Life is too
exciting, even at 60, to not be a part of it.
