Product Description
Top-notch advice on adopting DSL
DSL is exploding, with fifteen million fast Internet connections in 2001 and probably forty million more by 2003. The editors of DSL Prime, the weekly "industry bible," brief you on exactly what you need to know to put the technology to use. The book moves rapidly from the basics of the equipment through security, applications, and network management. With the authority of the industry's key periodical, Bourne and Burstein provide candid evaluations of the providers and manufacturers and offer technical managers a no-nonsense guide to make sound strategic decisions on DSL, reduce costs, and ensure a system that will run reliably and smoothly.

A captivating read on the numerous benefits of DSL

DSL
A Wiley Tech Brief

DSL delivers what the world demands––fast and cheap access to the Internet. DSL first erupted onto the scene in 1999, and in a mere two years, the number of people who connect to the Internet through DSL is rapidly approaching 30 million! The advantages of DSL are innumerable, and authors Jennie Bourne and Dave Burstein enthusiastically discuss DSL and its promising future.

Bourne and Burstein’s unique style of nontechnical writing begins with the basics of how DSL works. They then walk you through the business landscape and shower you with tips on how to choose a good provider, plus the various types of equipment you’ll need and trouble-shooting advice. These authors have become passionate about all the amazing possibilities that DSL offers, and they eagerly share their knowledge with you.

Whether you’re a first-time DSL user or a seasoned professional, they’re certain that after reading this book you’ll be as enamored with DSL as they are!

Some of the other intriguing topics that this book covers include:

  • Chapters catered specifically to enterprise users, small offices, home offices, and telecommuters, who are all hoping to enhance business operations
  • How to avoid pitfalls–and explanations of why they happened in the first place
  • Configuring DSL to your particular needs
  • Where the future of this technology will go–and the world’s reaction to it

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Darn Book on DSL you'll ever read., May 2, 2002
By Cal (NYC) - See all my reviews
The authors have a done a nice job of presenting the case for DSL. I live in an area where the RBOCS have bruised out the CLECS with flying elbow tactics. Armed with this book, I will now call up those bastards and demand that they install DSL in my neighborhood. Will you have a Chinese version coming out? Best consumed with prodigious amounts of durian...
