    1.0 out of 5 stars Huh?, October 10, 2006
By D.C "D.C" (Boston) - See all my reviews
Apparently, the previous two reviews were written by the authors.

In all honesty, this is the most un-readable text I have encountered in my 4 years of undergrad and 1+ years of grad study.

I can understand the diffuclty in translating FASB and SFAS principles to layman's terms, but the general flow of the text is verbose and time consuming.

The follow up questions at the end of each chapter often refer to topics that are defined differently in the chapter itself, leading you to re-read and re-read the same chapter. Important topics that could be otherwise easily explained are drawn out to the point where you feel your just plain stupid.

If you are a professor and your looking for a text to assign, this is not it.

    Unless you're a sadist.

1.0 out of 5 stars Rambling about topics, April 20, 2009
By lskj (Vienna, Austria, Europe) - See all my reviews
This book is truly one of the worst I have had to read in my undergraduate and graduate years. It goes on and on about a topic by throwing out poorly organized points only to tell the reader after several pages that this it what was done before and now it is done differently. If the FASB issued several statements on one issue, all of them are discussed in the order of earliest to latest, all the time leaving the reader guessing as to what information is still used in accounting and which one is not. The information in each chapter is presented in a rather haphazard manner, sometimes several important thoughts are presented in one long paragraph, sometimes clearly related ideas are presented in three-line paragraphs. The headings do not provide structure, but instead mislead the reader as to the existing structure. No chapter ends with a conclusion, instead, all of a sudden the rambling stops and one is left to wonder how the various pieces of information are related. The exercises rarely correlate with the material in the chapter and the Room for Debate issues require students to argue for viewpoints that cannot reasonably exist.
