Editorial Reviews

Review
"...an incredibly relevant clinical-histopathologic text...useful for both pathologists and clinicians.... The authors are correct in describing the book as a 'single integrated sourcebook.'" (Doody's, March 25, 2002)

"Categories [...] are covered comprehensively and with the precision and clarity that has typified the collective bodies of published works by these three talented authors" "the authors have skillfully chosen to include complementary topics that are both timely and of great practical importance" "Perhaps the most significant entry is a chapter exploring an approach to reporting equivocal and borderline melanocytic neoplasia [...] Inclusion of this subject in The Melanocytic Proliferations should be applauded by all so fortunate to acquire this important book" (George F. Murphy, M.D., Human Pathology, Vol. 33, March 2002)

"...well-written and entertaining...will be a valuable reference..." -- Modern Pathology, Vol. 15, No. 5, 2002

"A fine text...good photography and special emphasis on new developments, treatments, and diagnostic techniques." -- Journal of the American Association of Forensic Dentists, Volume 10-12, 2002

"an extremely helpful guide for the practicing dermatopathologist or general pathologist as an example of how to handle difficult cases" -- Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Vol. 126, August 2002

Product Description
The rising number of incidences of melanoma has led to increased interest in the disease from diagnostic, management, and basic science perspectives. The Melanocytic Proliferation describes the pathobiology of pigmented melanocytic lesions, and provides guidelines for their diagnosis and management as they affect the skin and mucosas.
Extensively illustrated, this book is divided into four parts: the biology of melanocytes and malignant melanoma; nonmelanocytic lesions (e.g., lentigo, congenital nevi, compound nevi); melanocytic lesions with the potential to develop as melanoma (e.g., dysplastic nevi); and malignant melanoma (e.g., radial and vertical growth phases). Offering extensive discussions of each lesion, The Melanocytic Proliferation covers clinical applications, histology, differential diagnostic features, diagnostic algorithms, immunohistochemistry, electromicroscopy, and, where applicable, treatment, prognosis, and adjuvant therapy.
The Melanocytic Proliferation is an excellent and indispensable resource for dermatologists, pathologists, dermapathologists, and surgical pathologists.

2.0 out of 5 stars "Current views" in a language that is less than precise, February 25, 2002
By Edward Nikicicz "nikicicz" (midlothian, va United States) - See all my reviews

It must be the influence of the other authors, because other books by Dr. Mihm are much more clearly written. Nevertheless this book probably has to be read as the alternative is to read journals. Mercy! Please try not to obscure the subject any further.
