Product Description
True fulfillment in life doesn't come solely from success at the office or happiness at home; it comes from both. What if there was a way for you to balance the pressures and demands of work against the needs of your personal life—while simultaneously increasing your success at living and working? There is a way, and The Power of You! is it.

Scott Martineau shows that real, sustainable happiness and personal growth can only come about when you do powerful inner work, challenging old beliefs, habits, and patterns that no longer serve you. The Power of You! addresses the needs of today's busy professionals with tools, techniques, skills, and a philosophy that does away with short-term fixes and cheap emotional highs. Together, these tools and tactics provide a comprehensive guide to ultimate balance, happiness, and wealth for anyone who wants to understand what it takes to succeed and be happy in the twenty-first century.

The Power of You! is a self-help book like no other. In addition to its practical applications, it's packed with inspirational and practical advice from renowned contributors like Dr. Nathaniel Branden, Arthur Joseph, Joe Vitale, and Jack Canfield. You'll not only have the tools and guidance you need to improve your life, but you'll also find here all the inspiration and motivation you need to get started now.

The first step to lasting personal change is consciousness. This is not the fuzzy spiritual consciousness one finds in most self-help books, but the practical, honest self-awareness that sets the stage for long-term improvement. Only through honest self-evaluation can real, lasting personal change occur. Whereas most self-help books present a vision of personal growth based on short-term changes, The Power of You! shows you how to create sustainable long-term change utilizing tools and knowledge not found anywhere else.

If you want to achieve the highest possible level of balance, happiness, and success, The Power of You! paves the way and shows you how to start your journey—today.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nothing New, August 26, 2006
The book really offers nothing new. The writing style changes significantly in different sections of the book leading me to believe that more than one person was responsible for actually writing the book.

In addition he relies much too heavily on quoting large sections of text from some of his mentors. As a result his ideas do not come across as strong. I never got the feeling that he was really expressing his own feelings. In some sections it seemed like he was just rehashing his mentors view points.

The section on relationships was to me particularily weak. He advanced the idea that the major problems are based what he calls the three legs of the conscious triangel- Feeling, Doing and Thinking. This is an oversimplification. He totally ignores the giver and taker (which often lead to the enabler and the abuser).

The only section where I found any passion was in talking about capitalism. There the voice was strong and clear and some valid points were made.

I did not find anything new or exciting and certainly could not recommend it as a must read.

1.0 out of 5 stars Save your money, don't buy the hype, August 25, 2006
By Lisa (Minneapolis) - See all my reviews
I'm sure the author is a genuinely concerned person about humanity, but this book was restating the obvious. A very boring read.

The fact that they use those "marketing form letters" to sell you on it, with all the "amazing secrets" is a red flag for sure. For instance, Dr. Dyer or Chopra don't need to do that because they actually have something to say. And the whole "we will show you how to make money on the internet" thing is the same lame formula. Have crappy product, write long vague and overpromising website letter, get people to spend money on the hope that this will save them and that "you too can be rich" idea is just bogus. Check in with your own vibes. Do you really think that someone that needs to market to you in this way will really have something valuable? NOT. I have succumbed to this marketing form letter thing 4 times now and I keep hoping that these people are going to have something valuable. Forget it. Take it from me, if they were that good, they'd be famous already. It's just a bunch of hacks.

I don't mean to be negative, its just that I want to warn you of the empty promises. Frankly, I'm really surprised that such good authors, Dyer, Walsch, Choquette, etc. would be involved with this stuff...

In this book, was mostly quote other authors. Nothing original in my opinion. Go identify your core values, take action and you won't need this book at all. Spend your money somewhere else.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book with some new ideas, August 18, 2006
I read a lot of books (more than 40 each year) and because of that it takes a lot to impress me in a self-development books because I've read so manyof them. Scott does have some new insights in this book and a few new ways of sharing the same information that others have shared. My suggestion is that, if you've read lots of self-development books, you will get a little out of this. If, however, you've read very little in the way of self-development, you will get lots of great insights and information.

While this book doesn't make my top ten list, it certainly makes the top fifty, for me, of all time best self-development books.

Blessings,
Tom Carpenter
