3.0 out of 5 stars The cover is misleading, May 9, 2009
By K. Reed (United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I was hoping for exactly what the cover shows, a layout of pattern pieces for dresses from the years given. Instead it's drawings of finished garments and a few ads for sewing and beauty products. Nice I suppose for showing a cross section of the types of garments the typical woman of the time would have worn bbut I was looking for something more along the lines of Authentic Victorian Fashion Patterns: A Complete Lady's Wardrobe which is limited to the 1890s but has scale drawings of the patterns themselves.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Resource for Writers of Historical Fiction, December 16, 2008

I really liked the type of information given in this book. One section was even a magazine from the time period with more information than just the patterns.

5.0 out of 5 stars American Dress Pattern Catalog, March 13, 2001
By A Customer
Very interesting, fun to look out book. I enjoyed finding out about the pricing and incentives used to entice buyers. The pictures are wonderful. The reprint of the magazine article is entertaining. It was interesting to see the evolution of comfort in women's clothing.
