Editorial Reviews

Product Description
This brief version of Durand and Barlow's best-selling text was created specifically for those professors who were drawn to the authors' standard-setting integrative approach but who wanted a shorter, easier book for their students. In this briefer version, the authors explain abnormal psychology in the most modern, scientifically valid method for studying abnormal psychology. Through this integrative approach, students learn that psychological disorders are rooted in multiple factors: biological, psychological, cultural, social, familial, and even political. Conversational writing style, consistent pedagogy, video clips of real clients (located on the accompanying free Abnormal Psychology Live 2.5 CD-ROM), and real case profiles - 95 percent from the authors' own case files - provide a realistic context for the scientific findings of the book, and ensure that readers never lose sight of the fact that beyond the DSM-IV-TR criteria, the theories, and the research are real people. With this text, students can take advantage of Abnormal PsychologyNow, our web-based, intelligent study system that, by using online diagnostic pre- and post-tests, helps students prioritize their study time by creating personalized study plans that focus only the sections in which they experienced difficulty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not Abnormal at all!, December 16, 2008
I really enjoyed this text. It is similar to other General Psychology texts but goes into more depth about the Abnormal side to it. I had to use it for a class and found it had great information, especially on court cases and laws that deal with various forms of mental illness. It was a good and easy read. Concepts were explained clearly and it comes with a great DVD rom.

Thanks for the book. It is a really high quality textbook, and the CD-Rom works great, with tons of relevant information on it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Careless , February 22, 2009
While I am well aware this book was listed used, it was also listed as like new, never used. The book I received was far from its description. The water damage which had warped the entire book was only the start. Whoever shipped and packaged the book had no consideration in doing so properly. When I removed it from the half opened package (from improper sealing) the first 70 or so pages were bent backwards, torn and the binding took a significant beating from cramming the book into the incorrect package. THANKS, I am glad I could send you honest and undamaged money; however you did not have the same consideration when sending the product! Again thank you for being so careless and taking my hard earned money.

3.0 out of 5 stars I got the teacher's addition
If you don't mind getting the instructors addition, then it is okay. It says in big letters on the side "Not For Sale" and there is no way you can sell it back at your college. Read more
