Review
"I prefer the Garrison text in most cases over the textbook I am currently using. I find the Garrison text to be equivalent )to) or better than other textbooks I have reviewed...I found the writing style to be very readable and engaging. This textbook does not always read like a textbook....What I really like are the sample questions from students and the critical thinking questions provided at the end of each chapter. I think the figures and images in the chapters I reviewed were truly excellent...I think the authors approach is very effective and definitely provides (the) relevance of oceanography to student(s) lives...This text provides timely examples that enhance the material. I think it is overall an excellent textbook that presents material that is extremely accessible to students coming from varied backgrounds."
"It is by far the most accurate treatment of introductory oceanography that I have ever seen."
"I think Garrison does an outstanding job!...I think this is a great book. The writing style is easy and simple to understand; the level at which topics are covered is perfect. When my students heard that I was reviewing a few chapters of the book, they asked me to tell the author that his book is one of the best they ever used, and that not only had they already gone through all of it, (so had) their roommate/ best friend/ child/ wife, etc"
"Garrisons text is better in almost every respect (than my current text)...His illustrations are better and the historical perspective he presents is very helpful in demonstrating how science works and progresses."
"Garrison makes learning about Oceanography a splash!"
