Second volume in the Men at War saga, begun with The Last Heroes (1997), a paperback originally published (in 1985) under the pseudonym Alex Baldwin. Griffin has written several popular WWII series, featuring the Marine Corps, the Navy, and now the shadow warriors of the OSS, led by ``Wild Bill'' Donovan. The first in this new saga turned on a cache of uranium ore in the Belgian Congo. This one by Griffin is well-worth checking out. I'm a big fan of current 90's style war novels like 'The Triumph and the Glory' and 'Going After Cacciato', I appreciate their candour and gritty reality. 'The Secret Warriors' is every bit as effective in this regard. The storytelling is first-rate, the characters memorable, and the plot keeps the reader turning the page to the end.

This is not the best book W.E.B. Griffin has written but if you want to continue reading the exploits of James Whittaker and Dick Canidy from Honor Bound, Blood and Honor and The Last Heroes it would be a worthwhile read.

Classic Griffin. If you've read the other two series, you can expect what the book is like. Regardless, I didn't put it down once I started reading it.

This book gets into the development of the OSS and does not pay as much attention to the military as did many of his other books. All the characters return from the first book and there are some interesting developments. Griffin also gets deeper into the characters and how they relate to one another. The book is mostly cloak-and-dagger OSS stuff with a few other plot developments thrown in. Not much shooting or violence, but there is a lot of drinking, money and sex -- as is common in many of his books.
