Amazon.com Review
The popular, though adulterous, Senator Taylor invites the beautiful and impressionable campaign volunteer Sarah Jamison into his suite for a political tête-à-tête. Before a sexual confrontation occurs, Sarah is concealed in the bedroom and becomes witness to Taylor's murder. Frightened by what she has seen, Sarah goes into hiding. Only diligent ex-D.A. Jake Savelle has the determination to uncover the conspiracy, and devotes himself to searching for the young woman.
Predictably, once our poor detective has finally found Sarah (this takes near half the novel), he is completely enraptured. Sarah soon returns his emotions, but is appalled to learn of his true motivations. As the killer slowly closes in on them, Jake must convince Sarah to trust him, and to reveal the killer's identity.
Set amongst the fluffy slopes of Aspen, this suspenseful romance employs a refreshingly new tactic. While our detective Jake falls in love with an enigmatic fantasy of Sarah, her actual character is surprisingly complex and attractive. With good thrills and some classic whodunit twists, this novel is sure to be a hit with readers. --Nancy R.E. O'Brien

An anonymous tip sends deputy D.A. Jake Savelle in pursuit of a witness in the Denver hotel-room murder of presidential hopeful Scott Taylor. Jake knows about Scott's sexually addictive behavior and begins searching for women in his recent past. He tracks down Sarah Jamison, a Philadelphia blue blood biding her time as a ski instructor and golfer at an executive retreat in Aspen. Jake, charading as a hotel guest, falls in love with the striking dark-haired beauty. When finally confronted, Sarah admits she'd been at the hotel and had heard the voices of two men the night of Scott's murder. The plot thickens when Jake finds out that Scott's wife has been having an affair with Denver police chief Barry Disoto. As the clues accumulate, someone threatens Sarah's life, and the pair find themselves in danger. Erickson (The Eleventh Hour) builds suspense by expertly weaving romance into multiple thrilling story lines. (Dec.)
