From School Library Journal
Grade 1-3-As a grandfather and his granddaughter prepare decorations for a party in honor of Dr. King's birthday, the man recounts the civil rights leader's achievements as well as his own experiences with freedom marches. Cinco de Mayo is less an explanation of the historical significance of the date than a presentation of how a present-day Mexican family observes the holiday. A brief retelling of the famous battle is appended. Both titles demonstrate the importance of relatives and friends in the celebrations. The full-color illustrations add to the warmth of the easy-to-read texts and to the richness of the ethnic heritages represented.
