While many books have been written to help stepparents, few are addressed directly to stepmothers. Savage is a stepmother and psychotherapist, and this book is based on her own, not always smooth experiences and on the experiences of the stepmothers with whom she has worked in groups. It covers such issues as money, sex, the ex-wife, jealousy, and, perhaps most helpfully, the typical stages that stepfamilies go through from the parents' courtship to the stepchildren's leaving the nest. The many women who find themselves in the challenging and difficult, but also rewarding, role of stepmother will be reassured, encouraged, and guided by Savage's sensible and experienced approach.
