From Library Journal

A California real estate attorney who gives seminars and counseling to major corporations, couples, and individuals on how to view and handle money, Devine recommends a methodology emphasizing dreams and vision while cultivating talent and time so that life can be lived to the fullest. The four keys Devine stresses are being articulate about money, being aware of how it affects your lifestyle, being deliberate about all financial transactions, and having a feeling of accomplishment as a result of your efforts. His methods, when compared with those employed by other financial advisers, are thought-provoking and well supported by examples and anecdotes. Recommended for all public libraries.?Steven J. Product Description

Do you want to know how you and your partner can keep money from sabotaging your standard of living? And how you can use money, day in and day out, to expand your capacity for intimacy, forge meaningful connections with others, acquire large amounts of cash, and bolster your self-esteem? Attorney Bill Devine shows you how to stop listening to conventional wisdom about financial security and start using money to convert the talents and spirit within you into the rich life you are capable of having.

Money is a tough issue to talk about, no matter how much you have. Surveys indicate that it is the leading cause of conflict for couples in America. Using case studies from his practice, Devine presents fresh communication techniques for avoiding and resolving painful misunderstandings about money. He also provides guidelines for discussing money in a way that can help you and your partner build a healthy relationship as well as a life together that reflects your values.

The customs and myths attached to getting a job, buying a house, and saving for retirement cause many couples great anxiety, frequently ruining their bankbooks, love, and self-esteem. With advice that is fiscally sound and spiritually aware, Devine shows you how to handle finances in a more rewarding fashion. He sets forth ingenious steps for investing more lucratively, negotiating more profitably, and using money to nurture your relationship and yourself. He offers guidance for finding work that suits your talents, fits your relationship, and pays you well. He also presents the keys for transforming any financial crisis into opportunity.

Devine's entertaining anecdotes illustrate that his advice will help you nourish your relationship and soul, while also helping you earn significant financial returns. His practice sessions will help you put the advice to work. Whether you are in a relationship or looking forward to one, this inspiring book will teach you how to earn, spend, invest, negotiate, and communicate about money in ways that will move you toward the relationship, bank balance, and life you desire.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy read, excellent book with fresh perspective!, February 23, 1999
This book provides a different approach to thinking about money. The author suggests that you can take control of your life's goals and then the money will follow. I found this book to be more about getting true to oneself and your spouse than a "get rich" plan. I agree with the author's theory that links happiness and pursuit of one's goals with financial rewards.

I appreciated the "getting started exercises" at the end of each chapter. They have encouraged some incredible discussion in our family as we face choices regarding relocation, and home purchases. I also do seem to have more money around and have found myself re-thinking purchases and my buying "process." Having fresh flowers in my kitchen has been very uplifting in February and is noticed by everyone who comes to visit.

I strongly recommend this book for anyone looking to improve on the quality of their life and leave behind "worrying big about the little."

3.0 out of 5 stars Common sense advice, August 15, 2006
By Reader "cvrcak1" (Boca Raton, FL) - See all my reviews
I have been very interested lately in exploring relationship between women, men and money in terms of both personal and professional relationship. While this book did not have answers to the question of why men make more money in the workplace, it did have some very interesting points on how to build relationship and have money (issues) complement those in a positive way. If anything, book should deter any couple from living together without thinking how money and finance can affect their relationship. But what was also interesting was to be able to identify traits of people worth having business relationship with. If anything, I would recommned this book for page 105 and chapter on "Master of Disaster" examples from both business relationship and work perspective. One does not have to live, work or interact with the master of disaster personality under any circumstances! Easy read, valuable common sense advice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wise Words For Financial Happiness In A Relationship, March 25, 2006
By Daniel A. Carr (Forest Knolls, CA United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This isn't a financial how-to book, rather this is a guide for how couples can bring their spirit or soul into their financial life, creating something far richer than just the dollars and cents. I think without intending, the author incorporates much of the thinking of some of the best marriage counseling books (such as The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work by John Gottman). Very highly recommended. And at the price it is unbeatable!
